Benjamin Netanyahu, “Bibi” to supporters, is no longer the Prime Minister of Israel. While new PM Naftali Bennett signals very little change in policy, Netanyahu, like Churchill in 1945, now leads the opposition.

Netanyahu’s leadership over more than a decade held fast Israel’s security and during the Obama administration Netanyahu was the de facto leader of the Free World. He comes from a family of heroes. His brother Jonathan led the 1976 Israeli rescue raid into Entebee. He was the only casualty.

Bibi Netanyahu not only protected Israel from her enemies. He developed systems like the Iron Dome that also did the job. He worked with Donald Trump to make peace with several Arab nations and he deftly dealt with leaders across the globe, always putting Israel first. He now faces not only political demotion, but possible criminal charges in an ongoing probe orchestrated by his foes. One hopes he overcomes that and returns to the Israeli premiership. He has been a brave and strong leader. He can be again.

FNC: “Israel’s parliament voted narrowly to approve a new government Sunday, with Naftali Bennett becoming the new prime minister, ending Benjamin Netanyahu’s record 12 years in the office. Bennett, representing the Yamina party, leads a coalition alongside the Yesh Atid party’s Yair Lapid. As part of the arrangement, the two men would split the term as prime minister, with Lapid expected to take over in two years, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Bennett’s address was regularly interrupted by shouting from Netanyahu’s supporters, while the outgoing prime minister sat silently in the audience. Netanyahu, of the Likud party, will lead the opposition within the Knesset. He is also dealing with a corruption trial based on allegations of fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes. He followed Bennett’s address with a speech of his own, in which he touted major developments during his administration. While he was in office, the U.S. moved their embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing the city as Israel’s capital. Netanyahu also reached peace agreements with several Arab nations.

The change in Israeli leadership does not appear to signal a change in the country’s position on international affairs. Bennett thanked President Biden for his support during Israel’s recent clash with Hamas is Gaza, and said his government plans to develop relationships with members of both major American parties.”

“Thank you Netanyahu for a long service with many achievements for the State of Israel, for strengthening Israel’s diplomatic status and security,” Bennett said in Hebrew before the Knesset on Sunday, according to the Post’s Lahav Harkov.

“If it is destined for us to be in the opposition, we will do it with our backs straight until we topple this dangerous government and return to lead the country,” Bibi said, as a call to arms to his followers.
