Bernie Sanders: Don’t Call Me ‘Godfather Of The Squad’!

While appearing on the ABC talk show “The View” on Wednesday morning, the radically liberal Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) lost it after conservative cohost Meghan McCain described him as the “godfather of the Squad.”

“The Squad” is a group of radically liberal congresswomen led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and McCain wanted to know what Sanders’ thoughts on them are.

“You are the Godfather of The Squad. You’re a hyper-progressive socialist, and you’re talking about social justice before it was cool,” McCain said. “But it feels like the squad today has moved even to the left of you.”

“How is it for you to stand by everything AOC, Rashida Talib and Ilhan Omar have said and done, particularly when it comes to Israel and talking about ‘From the river to the sea’ and the extermination of Israel, as a right to exist? Or do you think the movement, which you started, has moved away from what you envisioned?” she asked.

A visibly uncomfortable Sanders responded by trying to distance himself from The Squad, saying that he’s not interested in talk about the political actions of others.

“Well Meghan, first of all, I don’t believe that’s what they’re saying, and second of all, it’s not my job to have to defend every member of Congress, any more than it is their job to defend every statement that I make,” Sanders responded.

Not answering her question, Sanders instead pivoted by talking about the focus he currently has of making sure billionaires are taxed fairly. Once he finished that point, he got back to McCain’s question by saying that he’s happy with what progressives are doing in Congress. He then doubled down to once again say he won’t comment on the progressives individually, however.

“I think the progressives in the House are doing a very good job in standing up for working families,” Sanders said. “It’s not my job to comment on everything that any member of the House says, any more than it is for them to comment on what I say.”
